Certain jobs demand heavy duty apparel. Lots of work environments require this kind of clothing for safety reasons. For example, construction jobs, factory work, or any other kind of hard labor necessities wearing clothes that can withstand extreme wear and tear.
Work pants can be jeans or casual slacks. Some of the best known brands include Dickies, Carhartt, Wearguard, Dockers, Red Kap, Wrangler, Wolverine, Blaklader, and Duluth. Dickies pants are probably the most recognizable of the bunch as their products have become mainstream casual wear. In addition to their everyday apparel, they make work pants for painters, construction workers, and anyone else who needs durable stuff. They offer pants with double knee stitching, carpenter tool loops, and flannel lined jeans for very cold conditions. Carhartt is likely the second most recognizable name brand. They have regular work slacks, waterproof pants, ultra light work pants, and super sturdy double front dungarees. Overalls and jumpsuits are another kind of work pant and most of the above manufacturers make them along with their other items. Although not as well known, Duluth makes some of the toughest work pants on the market. Their work pants are made of the material used for fire hoses. In fact, they are so confident in their products that they offer a quality guarantee.
Work pants can be purchased at many different retail outlets and online. Department stores such as JC Penny, Wal-Mart, and Target often carry Dickies and Carhartt items, but these may not be of professional strength quality, especially with respect to Dickies. Department stores are ideal for work pants in a formal or semi-formal atmosphere. For safety minded clothing, you will have to search elsewhere. Army and Navy Surplus stores as well as camping/sporting goods stores have work pants among their inventories, too. Home improvement stores including Osh, Home Depot, and Lowe's usually sell painting whites and similar products. But to find specialty work pants, such as the flannel lined Dickies, you will have to visit a specialty store or e-tailer. Ordinary consumers do not have a need for this type of clothing for obvious reasons. Uniform stores tend to stock serious work pants and basically any store that carries bonafide work boots will have real work pants for sale. Work Boot Warehouse is an example of this type of retailer. Work boot stores have clothing appropriate for niche industries and can outfit employees working under extreme conditions such as subzero temperatures.
